The Oak Run History Group had its first meeting on April 5th 2008
Under the leadership of Maggie McNamara and Susie Watt,
they met at Oak Run School.
At that meeting they decided to become official
and elect officers to be of more prominence in the community.
A major focus was decided to be a plaque to be placed at Oak Run Church's cemetery and the general clean-up of cemeteries in the Oak Run area.
The group wanted to set aside time in each meeting for people to come and share stories of the past so these valuable tidbits would not be lost forever.
Oral History reports were done and tapes were created of Old-timers stories.
As of 2011
Under the leadership of our current President- Jack Keeton....
We published a 2010 calender, made several donations to the local school,
hosted several historic tours and are currently promoting
our 2nd Annual Oak Run Heritage Day.
Our goals for the future include publishing a cookbook containing recipes
and stories of Oak Run area residents.
We also wish to further pursue the placement of a plaque in the Oak Run Cemetery
Our meetings are held the 2nd Saturday of the month from 3-5pm and all are welcome to help.
